INFINIT KIMONO

We believe in Kimonos power to transform the way you feel and make you embrace the female traits. Wisdom, intuition, grace, emotional intelligence, and empathy are such important values to embody in the very male dominant society of today. We have no doubt that feminism has changed the world for the better, but equality is necessary for the healthy society we are part of. At the same time, however, the important difference between female-yin and male-yang needs to be honored as we need both to fully manifest. 

My love for vintage fabrics started already at a very young age with my mother who made my and my sister’s clothes from new and old fabrics. This was very common in the 70s, as most women stayed at home taking care of the household while men worked to provide for the family. Every piece of clothes my mother made was filled with her love for us, and that was intuitively felt when we wore them as children. Similarly, every Kimono was once made for someone special. The Japanese are masters in perfecting their craft. They put remarkable care and attention into what they are making, from miso to kimono.

I started my first shop on an old market in Amsterdam some twenty years ago. As far as I remember, I always found it of utmost importance that we use classic iteams that were once state-of-the-art, and we give them new, various, and even infinite lives. 

I fell in love with Japan when I was 19 and this love turned out to be infinite, too. The most important teaching which I received from the Land of the Rising Sun was the value of respect and honor. The citizens of Nippon 日本 are true masters at everything they create. I absolutely admire Japanese arts and crafts. All their products are one and only because of the combination of patience, precision, and love they put into the process. And so are Kimonos with their beautiful female aspect.

Whenever I wear one, and as you can imagine I have plenty;-), I feel the female energy rising within me. It is actually that easy to feel feminine again. It is just a very simple idea. It is something you could experience directly, thus I encourage you to put on a kimono you fancy and feel the power of the material, design, and shape. And, it seems to me, that this is exactly what the world needs right now, as we live in a more male dominant society.
