Shibori is a popular form of textile art in Japan. It is found on some of the more expensive kimono and haori kimono jackets. Patterns are created by minutely binding the fabric and masking off areas, then dying it by hand. When the bindings are removed, an undyed pattern is revealed.
Wear it indoors or outdoors, bring it to the sauna or just look chic doing grocery shopping in a local market. It’s great for a meditation outfit or on the beach to accompany your favorite bikini. It can be worn as an overcoat or as a casual dress or to wear to a party. You can even marry in one. That is how universally beautiful they are.
This item has traveled a long way from Japan and has been selected for you in a special process. As a result, there may be some fault, imperfection, or wear and tear, emphasising the uniqueness and authenticity of the product. They were all treated with anti-moth protection. In Japanese culture, only things that are imperfect, incomplete, and ephemeral can truly be beautiful, because only those things resemble the natural world. *All Kimonos are vintage which means they are not new. A handmade kimono can be over 150 years old, making it impossible to be spotless. A kimono can have an overall pattern of spots on the inside from moisture in the air. Water and silk are not good friends so to speak, and that is why you are advised to never wash your kimono but bring it to the dry cleaner. We select all kimonos with utmost love and care so only the best pieces are in our Collections. We categorised them into 3 groups:
- Excellent: almost spotless and in a very good condition,
- Very Good: you may find some water stains or discolored silk, which, however, are not easily noticeable, as they hide well in between colorful patterns. It is in a good condition and has no rips or tears.
- Good: you may find some water stain, spot, or discoloring which is more visible, however, still not easily noticeable. All Antique, Wearable Art Kimonos, which are more than 100 years old, with the water stain pattern inside fall under this category. All three categories were treated with anti-moth protection.
